Harold M. Bishop Scholarship Information Sheet
Joel H. Prouty Masonic Lodge A.F. & A.M. will award one, One-Thousand Dollar Scholarship, in the name of Harold M. Bishop. This scholarship will be awarded to an eligible applicant who has enrolled in and attended an accredited or approved School of Advance Study. The scholarships will be awarded based on the following criteria: Scholastic Achievement up to 50% - Citizenship & Character up to 25% - Financial Need up to 25% - Masonic Affiliation (up to 10%).

Selection of the recipient to receive this Scholarship will be made by Harold M. Bishop Scholarship Committee of Joel H. Prouty Masonic Lodge. This committee is appointed annually by the Master for the purpose of managing the Harold M. Bishop Scholarship. Payment of the scholarship award will be made to the recipient upon receipt of proof of enrollment and attendance (i.e. Official transcript) from the school.
If you are selected, it is your responsibility to notify Joel H. Prouty Lodge, in writing and mailed to the Harold M. Bishop's committee secretary with proof of your enrollment and attendance. The members of Joel H. Prouty Masonic Lodge A.F. & A.M. invite and encourage you to apply for this Scholarship.
Enrollment Guidelines
I. ELIGIBILITY
Any member, in good standing, or relative (son, daughter, nephew, niece or grandchild) of a member of Joel H. Prouty Lodge, Auburn, MA who:
(1) Is applying to accredited or approved School of Advance Study and,
(2) Submits an application using the attached form and such additional supporting information and data as may be requested by Joel H. Prouty Lodge, and
(3) Has applied for and has been accepted to attend an accredited or approved:
(a) four year degree granting college, or
(b) two year certificate granting school or college, or
(c) school of nursing, or
(d) certificate granting or license qualifying technical or vocational school offering postsecondary level training for tuition and other monetary considerations.
II. SELECTION PROCESS
The Lodge will announce the availability of the scholarship through publication in the monthly communication, email distribution, print and any other means appropriate. Applications can be obtained from the Secretary and on-line at: www.joelhproutylodge.org
The complete application should include:
1. An original copy of the student's academic transcript.
2. A brief written summary describing the applicant's participation in school, civic, athletic
and religious activities.3. The Attached Financial Aid Questionnaire, with supporting copies of parents (or guardians) current Federal Income Tax Return.
4. A list any Masonic affiliations and their relationship to applicant.
The Harold M. Bishop Scholarship Selection Committee will review the applications and shall select the applicant to receive the award. In the event that two or more applicants receive first place, tying point credits in the evaluation process. The Scholarship Selection Committee shall determine which applicant will receive the scholarship award. In such determination The Committee will make a good faith effort to determine which of the tying applicants is the most deserving of receiving the award. The Committee may consult with other suitable sources for this purpose. In any event, the decision of Committee shall be final on all parties to this selection process.
III. AMOUNT AND CONDITIONS OF THE SCHOLARSHIP AWARD
The Harold M. Bishop Scholarship shall consist of one $1000.00 award, payable to the recipient upon receipt by Joel H. Prouty lodge of written verification from the enrolling college (or school) of the recipient's matriculation and/or commencement of the course of study or training. Payment of the Scholarship will be made to the recipient upon receipt of proof of enrollment and attendance, i.e. official transcript of the first semester, from the school.
If you are selected, it is your responsibility to notify Joel H. Prouty Lodge, in writing and mailed to the Harold M. Bishop's committee secretary, with proof of your enrollment and attendance. The Lodge reserves the right to change the amounts or conditions of the award, or to discontinue the award altogether at any time prior to the commencement of any year's selection process.
IV. AWARD CRITERIA
Applicants shall be competitively evaluated and ranked for final selection purposes on the basis of the following aggregate point credit scoring system:
(1) Scholastic Achievement
Class Rank – Please provide an original copy of the student's academic transcript.
(2) Citizenship and Character
Point credits shall be awarded to the applicant on an equitable basis by the recommending Committee for verifiable participation in school, church, community-wide sponsored, and other recognized organizational sponsored activities. - Please provide a brief written summary describing the applicant's participation in school, civic, athletic and religious activities.
(3) Financial Need
This form will be used by The Lodge for consideration a certified and attested statement of estimated essential first year educational and living costs and first year personal and family financial support capabilities. Essential expenses may include transportation, tuition charges, books and supplies, laboratory and equipment fees and dormitory and meal charges. For nonboarding or day students, transportation and personal room and board expenses up to $3000.00 may be included. Family financial support capabilities shall be assumed to be not less than 10% of combined certified income of both parents (or guardians) of the applicant in excess of $30,000.00 per annum. The financial deficit shall be the amount by which the above anticipated essential expenses exceed the combined personal and family financial support capabilities outlined above. – Please provide a completed copy of the attached Financial Aid Questionnaire, as well as a copy of the Parents (or guardians) 2008 Federal Income Tax Form should be provided as verification of annual income.
(4) Masonic Affiliation
The applicant must either be a member in good standing of Joel H. Prouty Lodge or the applicant must be the son, daughter, nephew, niece, grandson or granddaughter of a member of Joel H. Prouty Lodge who is currently in good standing, or if they have passed, was in good standing with their lodge at the time of their death. – Please list any Masonic affiliations These criteria will be used to assign a point value for each area, and will be used to evaluate and rank the applicants.
